Maintenance & Longevity

Q: How long does the vinyl cover fabric typically last?

A: On average, high-quality vinyl cover fabric lasts between 6 to 9 years. This lifespan can vary depending on sun exposure, chemical balance, and how well the cover is maintained over time.

Q: Is it possible to convert my existing pool cover from a rope system to a stainless steel cable system?

A: Yes, we can perform this upgrade! Converting from traditional ropes to a stainless steel cable system is one of the best ways to improve the reliability of your pool cover. Stainless steel cables are significantly stronger, do not stretch like ropes, and are far less likely to snap or jam. This conversion reduces the frequency of service calls and ensures a smoother, more dependable operation for years to come.

Q: What kind of regular maintenance does the mechanism require?

A: To ensure your system remains reliable and safe, we recommend a professional maintenance check annually. Regular inspections help prevent minor wear and tear from becoming costly repairs.

Q: Do I need to remove rainwater or snow from the top of the cover?

A: Yes. It is vital to remove standing water or heavy snow before operating the system. Attempting to open the cover with weight on top puts significant stress on the mechanism and motor, which can lead to equipment failure.

Q: Can I install an automatic cover on an existing pool, or only new ones?

A: While it is most common during new construction, we can install automatic covers on existing pools. Please note that "retrofitting" an older pool is a complex project that requires specialized equipment and custom installation, so it is a more significant investment than a new-build installation.

Troubleshooting

Q: What should I do if the cover gets stuck halfway?

A: If your cover stops moving, do not force the controls. We recommend contacting a local pool cover specialist immediately. For the most reliable service, give us a call, and we can help diagnose the issue and get your pool secured.

Q: What are my options if a pool cover rope breaks?

A: You have three primary solutions depending on your needs:

  • Rope Replacement: A quick fix to replace a single broken cord.
  • Full Re-string: Replacing both ropes to ensure even tension and prevent the other side from snapping shortly after.
  • Cable Conversion (Best Value): Upgrade to stainless steel cables to permanently eliminate rope stretching and breakage.

⚠️ Pro Tip: If a rope breaks, stop using the motor immediately to prevent track damage. Call us to manually secure your pool.

Q: How do I clean the tracks to keep them running smoothly?

A: Keeping your tracks clear of debris is easy: simply use your pool water to flush the tracks out. Starting at one end, splash water into the track and move toward the other end, washing away dirt and grit in the same direction you are moving.

Q: Does the cover work during the winter months?

A: Most systems can remain closed for the winter to keep the pool clean, but they are generally not designed to be operated in freezing temperatures. If the water in the tracks or on the fabric freezes, attempting to move the cover can cause serious damage. We recommend keeping it closed and properly maintained until the spring thaw.
